AstraZeneca engages doctors to try out volunteering

Every year, AstraZeneca reaches out to doctors and other medical professionals by participating in conventions and conferences organized by different medical societies.

This year more than just having a presence in these professional meets, AstraZeneca reaffirmed its commitment to being a socially responsible corporate citizen by promoting the spirit of volunteerism among partners, supporters and friends in two recently held medical conferences.

VSO Bahaginan, one of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) partners, participated in AstraZeneca exhibits during the Philippine College of Physicians Annual Convention last May 4-6 at the SMX Convention Center and the Philippine Heart Association Annual Convention held in May 27-29 at the EDSA Shangri-la Hotel.

In these events, doctors and even nurses were introduced to VSO Bahaginan and its international volunteering program for Filipino professionals, including medical and hospital doctors and various other health practitioners. VSO health volunteers work in collaboration with communities in over 40 developing countries in Asia, Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific and Latin America to find lasting solutions to poverty, including ensuring health and social well being of disadvantaged people.

The conventions provided a strategic opportunity for VSO Bahaginan to increase awareness and interest for the program to a key target audience. VSO Bahaginan is a Filipino development organization that fights global poverty and disadvantage through a wide range of volunteer programs, including international and national volunteering.

“We are very happy with the quality of interaction we had with Filipino doctors at the AstraZeneca exhibits. We are proud of the partnership we have with AstraZeneca and thankful for the support they have given us in encouraging more doctors and health professionals towards volunteering for development,” says Rachel Nalus Quintos, Public Engagement and Communications Adviser of VSO Bahaginan.

With the increasing collaboration with VSO Bahaginan in events such as these AstraZeneca hopes that its networks of doctors and partners will join in its advocacy to promote the value of volunteerism and skills sharing as a potent tool to improve lives.
